Add Kinjam to your home screen

Kinjam is not downloaded from the App Store or Google Play: it installs from the browser in a few taps, starting at play.kinjam.app. Pick your device.

Why add it to the home screen?

Full screen, like an app

Kinjam opens in one tap from its icon, with no address bar or tabs: everyone gets straight to their game without going through the browser.

Even without a connection

Today’s challenges are kept on the device: on the train or in the room where the Wi-Fi doesn’t reach, the app opens and plays as usual.

Answers kept safe on iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, Safari may erase the data of a site that is not on the home screen after seven days without opening it — including answers played offline and not yet sent. Once added to the home screen, the app is no longer affected.

iPhone and iPad, with Safari

Button names may differ slightly from one version of iOS or iPadOS to the next; the path stays the same.

  1. Open Safari and go to play.kinjam.app.
  2. Tap the Share button . If you can’t see it, first tap the button next to the address, then “Share”.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap “Add to Home Screen” . If it isn’t there, “Edit Actions” at the very bottom of the list lets you add it.
  4. If the “Open as Web App” option appears, leave it on. Tap Add.
  5. From now on, open Kinjam from its new icon. The first time, you will probably need to sign in again: the installed app does not share Safari’s sign-in.

Another browser on iPhone or iPad? Since iOS 16.4, other browsers, Chrome for instance, can also offer “Add to Home Screen” in their Share menu. If you can’t find it, open play.kinjam.app in Safari and follow the steps above.

Android, with Chrome

Chrome installs Kinjam as a proper app, and often offers to on its own.

  1. Open Chrome and go to play.kinjam.app.
  2. If Chrome, or Kinjam itself, invites you to install it, tap Install: you’re done. Otherwise, tap the menu to the right of the address bar.
  3. Tap “Install and create shortcut” — depending on your version of Chrome, “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.
  4. Confirm with Install. Kinjam’s icon appears on the home screen.

Samsung Internet

The browser that comes preinstalled on many Samsung phones and tablets.

  1. Open play.kinjam.app in Samsung Internet.
  2. Tap the install icon that appears in the address bar, then confirm. If there isn’t one, open the browser’s menu and choose “Add page to”, then “Home screen”.

Computer, with Chrome or Edge

On Windows, macOS, Linux or a Chromebook, Kinjam installs like a program, in its own window.

  1. Open play.kinjam.app in Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the install icon on the right of the address bar, then Install.
  3. No icon? In Chrome, open the menu, then “Cast, save, and share” and “Install page as app”. In Edge, look for “Apps” in the menu.
  4. Kinjam opens in its own window and joins your programs.

Mac, with Safari

Since macOS Sonoma (14), Safari can also turn a site into an app that lives in the Dock.

  1. Open play.kinjam.app in Safari.
  2. In the menu bar, choose File > Add to Dock, or click the Share button , then “Add to Dock”.
  3. Click Add. The app keeps its data separate from Safari’s: sign in once inside it.

Firefox on a computer

Firefox for desktop does not, by default, offer to install a site as an app. You are not missing anything, though: Kinjam works fully in a tab.

For an icon and a window of its own, open play.kinjam.app with Chrome or Edge and follow the steps above. Firefox for Android, for its part, can add Kinjam to the home screen from its menu.

One tablet for the whole family

Just one iPad or tablet at home? Install Kinjam once, with the steps above, open it from its icon and sign in with your parent account.

Then make the device the family tablet (“Use this device as the family tablet”): everyone picks their avatar to play, and a parent always opens their profile with their code. Do it in the installed app rather than in Safari: on iPhone and iPad, the two don’t share their data. The family tablet in the FAQ

Good to know

  • It’s free. This version of Kinjam is provided free of charge, installed or not.
  • Not in the App Store or on Google Play, and that’s normal. Kinjam is a web app: it installs from the browser, without going through an app store.
  • Updates arrive on their own. When a new version is ready, the app says so and updates in one tap.
  • Before removing it, open it once with a connection so any waiting answers are sent. It is then deleted like any other app.

Ready to install it?
